Electronic identification (eID) is one of the tools to ensure secure access to online services and to carry out electronic transactions in a safer way.
eID can guarantee the unambiguous identification of a person and make it possible to get the service delivered to the person who is really entitled to it.

The NPR is a comprehensive identity database of the residents in the country with full identification and other details by registering each person in the country. This will help in better targeting of the benefits and services under various Government schemes/ programmes, improve planning and security of the country, prevent identity fraud etc.

The Need for a credible Identification system is real and imminent for internal security like terrorism, Illegal Migration, Border Management, Insurgency, Crime with other benefits incidental.
